You can love both Darwin and divinity   (02-11-2009)
People among many faiths balance their religious views with evolution

Charles Darwin is widely praised by atheists for the way his theory of evolution denies the existence of God. For the same reason he's vilified by conservative religious people.

There is just one problem with the opinions of these opposing camps: They're not exactly based on what Darwin said. The pioneering 19th-century biologist confessed that evolution placed him in a "hopeless muddle" about the concept of God.  more...

Pseudo science costs us bigtime    (02-06-2009)
When outrage greets the rational, this time a bus ad questioning the existence of God, we shouldn't be surprised non-science is tolerated.

In Alberta, teaching kids creationist fairy tales as an alternative to real biological science is even paid for with our tax dollars. Last summer, the province quietly began shipping more of our dough to private and religious schools by upping their per student grant from 60% to 70% of the total instructional cost.   more...

Stein's Views On Science Get Him Nixed From Graduation   (02-03-2009)
Comedian, economist, speechwriter and game show host Ben Stein withdrew as speaker at the University of Vermont's spring commencement ceremonies Monday after concerns arose about his opinions on evolutionary theory, intelligent design and the role of science in the Holocaust.

Stein, 64, has also made comments attributing the theory of evolution to the emergence of eugenics -- a Nazi-supported ideal that promoted notions of racial supremacy and purity -- and the rise of Nazi Germany and the ensuing Holocaust.  more...

Sadly, eugenics is a part of evolution's scientific history.  Contrary to Stein, though, eugenics does not invalidate the theory.  It just demonstrates that science in evil hands becomes evil just the same.

Scientists use Darwin theory to develop new technologies   (02-02-2009)
Still a flash point among fundamentalist Christians, the theory of evolution proposed by Charles Darwin 150 years ago has become an indispensable tool for biologists to comprehend the natural world.

Yet as scientists mark Darwin’s 200th birthday this month, evolution is no longer simply a narrative of life. Scientists have begun using it as a tool to develop new technologies.  more...
